My Expectations of You
|
Simply being present is not enough.
Class Procedures
- Every student must have completed the Lab Safety requirements listed below within the first week of class
- a Safety Contract signed by a parent and themselves
- a 100% on the Safety Quiz
WITHOUT THESE ITEMS, NO STUDENT WILL BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN LABS
IF PARTICIPATION IS PREVENTED DUE TO THE LACK OF THESE ITEMS AND/OR FOR ANY OTHER SAFETY VIOLATION,
A ZERO WILL BE EARNED FOR THAT LAB
IF PARTICIPATION IS PREVENTED DUE TO THE LACK OF THESE ITEMS AND/OR FOR ANY OTHER SAFETY VIOLATION,
A ZERO WILL BE EARNED FOR THAT LAB
- There is a published daily agenda for each class found here; this is your first source of information in case you forget something or are absent
- I recommend you have a "Buddy" in my class. This buddy is your second source of information when you think you may have forgotten something or have missed class.
- I advise you to exchange phone numbers. This is so you can call each other, the day you miss class!
- Always check with your buddy before you come see me with questions on missed assignments (i.e., make-up work)
- Most lecture notes are online so you can keep up even if you miss class
- All homework is turned in to the "Work to be Graded" basket as you walk into class (each period has its own basket).
- Each time you enter the class, you should check your folder in the class crate.
- All assignments are handed out this way
- All graded assignments are returned this way.
- Keep your graded assignments as this is proof of your grade.
- I will not change a grade in the grade book without documentation.
Class Policies
- All students are required to follow student handbook rules and behave politely and considerately in class at all times with each other, myself, and visitors.
- You are expected to begin working immediately upon entering the classroom.
- When the bell rings, the door is shut. To enter the classroom, you must have obtained a Tardy Pass.
- All students are expected to be in their assigned desks before class is dismissed.
- Passes are handed out at my discretion and never during the first or last 15 minutes of class.
- Cell phones and mobile devices are kept in your purse/bag/backpack during class.
- Exceptions are only for specific assignments or activities

Attendance
The District Policy states that 90% attendance is required to earn credit for a class.
The District Policy states that 90% attendance is required to earn credit for a class.
- An absence is recorded if
- you are not in class
- you are in class for less than 45 minutes, either through leaving early or arriving late.
- This means you are in danger of receiving No Credit for a class when you have 9 or more absences.
- However, you can appeal the No Credit standing as long as you can demonstrate the absences were excused.
- Excused absences require documentation within 3 days of the absence (i.e., a doctor's note, orthodontist's note, etc.)
- If your appeal is successful, you will receive the grade earned in the course
- In other words, you keep working, doing your homework and attending class in order to keep a passing grade
Grades
The Grading Scale, as defined by the district (notice the minimums for the grade)
Synergy is the district grade book and is the final determinant of your grade.
Synergy grades are updated routinely.
Academic Integrity
All course work is to be completed individually. While studying with others is actively encouraged and a component of any lab course, your assignments, lab notebook, and test grades are assessments of what you have Learned, not how well you can copy answers. Violations of this are considered cheating and treated accordingly. Lastly, any plagiarized work will receive an automatic grade of "0" until you have rectified the problem. If you are unsure what constitutes plagiarism, the following website provides a definition and examples. ( http://www.wadsworth.com/english_d/special_features/plagiarism/definition.html)
